Lalala,
FUN FACT: Paul had 35 legit followers, 7 x 5= 35, and then 7+5=12 LOL, I'm such a math nerd, I look for things like this in everything, thats why, when I read a book, I don't stop on a page with a factor of 6 >__> It's hard to shut my brain off to these things sometimes.
Listening to :
Bach's prelude to cello concierto.
Elgar concierto movements I, II, III and IV
I love the cello :D
Anyways, lately I've been having this though, like Jesus broke our chains, our ties to sin, He repaid our debt.... but what keeps us from sinning? It's like this for me, I've always been trying to pray for Him to break what holds me to my sin, but He's already done that, and the mind is willing but the body is weak... Joe told me that our flesh in itself is evil, and that we want to do better, but our own flesh won't let us. Now there's lots of other stuff that Joe said, and there's more too it, but I lazy, (: I digress, I changed my prayer from, break these chains, to, help me move, to walk away... I always get this image, where something, pick your vice, is just there, not doing anything, just smiling plolietly, and there's a chain on the floor, it's not attatched to you, but it's attached to this sin, yet we're not getting the heck out of there. IDK, the way I thought of it was, We are no longer held to our sin by ball and chain, yet we aren't fleeing as if the devil is right behind us, instead, we stay, afraid to move, afraid to change, not wanting to change, just sitting there, absent mindedly, twiddling our thumbs, drooling out the corner of our mouths, like sheep to a slaughter house... Yes I have a lot of time on my hands, and this is just one of the thoughts that often race through my brain. But, I have learned this, I used to be jealous of people that had 1 on 1 convos with God, but I'm beginning to see that we do have 1 on 1 with Him all the time, when we ask a question, we find answers in the bible, through prayer, and even through advice given by people whom love us, heck, even random Daily Scripture apps. on FB...
Lawl, >__> I'm done rambling, it's 9:00 ): where has my day gone?

hahaha that illustration is really good... its not chained to us, yet we just dumbly stare at the sin instead of getting the heck out of there. imma use that ;)
like i always say, the key to understanding how we deal with sin NOW is to understand salvation. you are totally right in the question of Jesus breaking our ties. We are totally depraved and sinful and Jesus on the cross allowed us to die to sin and live in Him. that's the "what Christ did" part of our salvation.
the next part of our salvation is "what the Holy Spirit DOES." the answer to that question, "what keeps us from sinning?" is SANCTIFICATION. That just means that the Holy Spirit continues to work in our hearts to make us hate sin more, and love God more. He does this and God makes us into His likeness.
sanctification only comes through the Holy Spirit by the Grace of God. Not by us. Amazing huh? God does all the work in us, He gets all the glory.
ps... i don't know if the 'flesh itself' is evil... what i mean by that is that the sin has complete control over us and we are slaves to it, being unable to do anything but sin. Paul calls that "being in the flesh" in romans.
i'm not sure
the reason why i bring that up is because in the past (and even now) people believe that their flesh itself is the cause of their sin, and thats why people like whip themselves and beat themselves in order to subdue their 'flesh'.
the cleansing of our sinfulness isn't going to come from beating ourselves, but through repentance and turning away from our sin. Like you said ;)
